2005

For 2005 it was back to a ten day tour earlier in the season. We saw some great storms but this year it was all about structure and not so much about tornadoes. We did see one brief tornado near Lamar, Colorado and a few brief landspouts in western Kansas, but the prizes were the awesome supercells near Lamar CO, Hereford, TX, and Kim, CO.

2005 was also the year when I first chased with Dr. Rick Toracinta. I especially got to know him when we both extended our chases for a few days to lead an on-call tour in eastern Kansas (that turned out to be a big time bust despite the high risk issued by SPC). Rick and I got to be good friends on that tour and after since we shared some other interests outside of chasing, but sadly Rick suddenly passed away in the off-season and I never got to chase with him again. Rick was a great guy and his loss was greatly felt throughout the SLT family. This page is dedicated to his memory.
